Does this bring back memories of 1998 for anyone?

  2. Rebecca Says:

    Hi everyone,
How can we as a communtiy of potential volunteers help those in Palm Bay who have been affected by the fires? What do they need? Is there anything they need at the shelters? How about those without electricity or water?

    Please let us know.

  3. Tammy Says:

I just wanted to say, if people want to help do it through the shelters directly, or the banks accepting donations for the victims and responders. Red Cross is advertising it is accepting donations as well, but I think I would be weary about the red cross, they take donations and then only part of your donation actually goes to victims and the rest goes to the red cross it’self. Dont forget about all the volunters out on the fire lines from other cities too, they are away from home and they need things too, food water, maybe a pillow, I saw video of them sleeping on sidewalks trying to catch some rest.

Im trying to find out if my home is still in one piece i have no one to call to find out.I live on hackensack Ave

  5. Janice Says:

We are really feeling for all who lost their homes or are in danger of losing them. We have had fires burn close to us before & we know the frustration & fear. I agree with trying to contact local shelters & organizations to help rather than the Red Cross.
But, we have one burning question here. Why has it taken so long to get help from the forestry service & national guard? I know other counties’ firefighters have been there, but could having the helicopters & a larger amount of help sooner have saved many of these homes? I still think this state reacts too slowly to disaster. It’s no comfort to those who have already lost all. Just a thought to put out there. Felt the question should be asked. PS: Lousie, I hope your home is ok! We’re praying for you all.

If any of you live on Ft. pierce near a lady named pat her house is completely gone so most likely your house is gone too. So sorry for everyone’s loss and thank you to all of the fireman and women, and all of the neibors who have been helping put out the fires. we really need to catch who ever did this.

  7. Tracy Says:

I used to live on Geraldine St in the SW part of Palm Bay. I am just in shock. I remember 1998 too.

  8. Audrey Says:

They really NEED to catch the ones that caused all this destruction,
    pain and suffering.

Set them on fire and throw them in the ashes!!

This should never have happened. Earthquakes in China,Typhoon in Burma, took so many lives and it is a disaster on one has any control over,
this we do, but with so many nutso’s running the Earth, it is just awful.

  9. KIM Says:

I just want to say thank you to all the firefighters working so hard here in Palm Bay to put out all these horrible fires. As I drive around my neighborhood what once was lush and green is now black and chared .. its so sad . I hope they catch this guy as soon as possbile yesterday alone as they thought they started to have a grasp on things this guy struck again twice. Today is a new day and new challeges I’m sure will arise . I live here in Palm Bay and if anyone needs anything , and if I can help I would be more then willing . I remember 98, I was young teenager then and didn’t really understand the severity of it, but now that I have 3 kids of my own and am trying to explain the why and how of this situation it is a very scary and sad reality. I am praying for all of those who lost homes, or like myself are in the line of fire and praying that it doesn’t reach us. Does anyone know if schools are planning to be open tomorrow?

  11. David Says:

Now that they caught the guy they believe is behind these arson fires I hope they give him all he has coming to him. I wasn’t near the fire but still felt the pain as I watched each house burn and all the memories. I just want to tell all of the people who did lose some or everything you are most definatly in my prayers. I know God will bless you with his love.

  12. Deana Says:

Thank you everyone who has worked on the fires!!! You have done a great job! Fire fighters, forestry, neighbors, AT&T ~ We live in the best country ~ I just look at all the suffering in other places with no help at all. We need to give them all as much credit as we can! No system is perfect. When you have fires popping up all over the place in a matter of hours, how can you be everywhere at once? The person or persons who started all this needs to rot in (hell)!!! I feel for all the families who lost everything! Lives could have been lost~ Thank God none were ~
Again God bless all the workers!!! We are soooo thankful for all your hard work.

  14. Audrey Says:

Now that they caught the in human being that caused all this destruction and heartache, PLEASE Judges, THROW THE BOOK AT HIM, So that we don’t hear in the near future that he is out of jail, and doing this AGAIN.
I pray for all those who have lost homes and God will give you strenght to come back.

This guy is a moran, some home owners caught him in the act in the woods the day he was found probably about to start another fire. HELLLOOOO idiot why return? but im glad you did cause you diserve to PAY for all that pain, financial burden, and suffering….. asshole!!!!

Why didnt you light you D!*@ on fire if you wanted to see something burn, and then maybe only U would be the one suffering IDIOT!!!

you know people like that (fire Starters) the ones that have a fetish with fire should be put in a looney bin, god knows with all those homes burned down that we are greatfull that no one got hurt!!! Material things can be replace with good friend, family and volenteers, but not your life!!!

I live in orlando, Im not anywhere nere there but i do feel for those poor people, and i want to say thank you too the Firefighter, Volenteers, Police, And citizens that have someway or another helped this horrible incident get somewhat better. GOD BLESS YOU ALL, AND MAY YOUR LIVES RECOVER WELL!!!

My major concern on Tuesday, the height of the fires, was what was going on with the elderly that live in small Assisted Living Facilities and Adult Family Care Homes.

These are privately owned homes and are licensed by the state. There was absolutely no protocol on the county/town/state level, to ensure the residents of these homes were safely out of harms way. Everyone knows the routine if a hurricane is approaching, but what of the immediate actions when a situation like the wild fires arises.

To my knowledge, everyone was safely evacuated. During the chaos that was Palm Bay Tuesday afternoon, there simply was no order mandated by any authority. Take this from someone who was trying to find out where her Mom was evacuated to while hitting closed roads and walls of smoke and flames!

I was told that folks were being transported by SCAT vans and were taken to Bayside High (we all know what happened there), or the Publix up the road. During my travels from one end of Palm Bay to the other, I saw not a single SCAT van. They were not cruising around to help evacuate fragile adults, or anyone else. Did anyone see or hear of these vans being out there helping? Maybe I just missed them.

  17. Chris Says:

I would like to say thank you to all who are involved with handling the fires. I was lucky enought to be a firefighter on a strike team sent to help out. I cant put into words how well we were treated by everyone. It was absoloutly amazing. We are all proud to help, thank you all for your continued support!!!

  18. Shiney Says:

Thank you Chris! The firefighter’s did an outstanding job!!!! It was such a crazy scene out there on Monday and it had to be so difficult for the firefighter’s to get a handle on things.

My previous post mentions Tuesday – I should have said MONDAY. That was the craziest day for the fires! Also, I’d like to say that my post didn’t mean anything against any firefighter, police personnel, etc. You did all you could to get control of the situation and thank God for you guys.

Driving around Palm Bay last night, I couldn’t believe how many homes were spared. It was simply amazing. Charred trees, brush and lawns completely surrounding houses that were not damaged at all.

HATS off to firefighters in Palm Bay and everywhere!!!!

  19. Lori Says:

It is dry again…WHY do people throw their cigarette butts out of their car windows? Not only are you LITTERING and HARMING animals and sea mammals, you are potentially starting a brush fire! I hope the state hikes the taxes on cigarettes to $10! They should use some of that tax to clean up the roads and beaches. I won’t even go to the beach anymore since it is one giant ashtray.

nobody is talking about it but there is a large fire going on in my area. I live in Groveland. the news keeps saying that there is a lot of fog in our area, well, it’s not fog it’s wildfire smoke. I don’t think anyone at the station knows. I am working on contacting them now about it

  21. Tim Says:

I live in Deltona, some 20 miles or so from the fires at SR-44 and I-4. Once again the wind has changed direction and I’m gonna have to close my windows and turn on the A.C. because my eyes are burning and the house is filling with smoke. So far away, yet, so near-by!!
